The Institute of Licensing and Gambling Commission are working together to produce a series of E-learning modules on gaming machines.

Modules 1 and 2 are now available, and a 3rd module is in progress. The modules are designed to help Licensing Authorities (LAs) and other co-regulators to improve their understanding of gaming machines and the local regulation of gaming machines.

Module 1 covers:

  • The role of LAs in the regulation of gambling
  • What is a gaming machine; and
  • The various types of gaming machines

Module 2 covers:

  • The physical components of a gaming machine
  • How gaming machines work
  • The signage displayed on gaming machines

Module 3 will include the illegal siting of machines and appropriate regulatory action.

The intention is to continue our work to provide further modules concerning other areas of gaming and gambling.

Please note, that the gaming machines sector is a diverse and complex one and this training is only designed to give a basic introduction, for help with complex issues seek specialist advice.

CPD and Certification

The IoL accredits the modules with 0.5 hours CPD each (please note this is based on the suggested amount of time it should take a person to complete the module). Please ensure you view each page of the modules before taking the online test – otherwise the test completion will not record, and your certificate will not be generated.

Accessing the modules

The E-learning modules are available to everyone. To access the modules, you will need to log in to the IoL website.
