Home Office Consultation on Proposed Late Night Levy and Extensions to EMROs
Published Date: 18/Jan/2012
A Home Office consultation launched yesterday is seeking views about two measures in the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 that will be implemented through regulations: Early Morning Restriction Orders (EMROs) and the late night levy.
The Institute of Licensing intends to respond to the consultation, and will be consulting members in order to gather views which will form the basis of the response.

I believe the late night levy will also help reduce the volume of complaints regarding noise from premises after midnight. The vast majority of complaints are not actually alcohol related, they are noise related, particularly premises in residential areas away from town centres. These premises will not want to pay the late night levy so will reduce the noise complaints after midnight. It is a win, win situation in my view.
