This opportunity has arisen due to the existing post holdertaking a career break.

This post is in a busy service, and the successfulapplicant will use a broad range of technical and administrative skills tocontribute to:

  • Inspecting licensed premises (including pubs, clubs, cinemas, betting shops) and taxi vehicles to check compliance with licences;
  • Investigating complaints and licensing offences, which may include carrying out tape recorded PACE interviews;
  • Instigating appropriate enforcement action, and attending committee or court as necessary.

The successful applicant will also give advice to thepublic on licensing enforcement matters, and will have day to day contact withlicence holders and applicants, and regular contact with the police and otheragencies.  Good interpersonal skills and an excellent telephone manner areessential to work in this public facing role. Some working out of normal office hours will be required.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Licensing Manager to manage an award winning team.


The principle requirement of the post is to manage a dedicated team of Licensing Clerks and Enforcement Officers with particular regard to the Hackney Carriage and Private Hire trade, and also the administration and enforcement of the Licensing Act 2003 and Gambling Act 2005, but not restricted to.

You will regularly advise and report to Members and attend various Committees with regard to licences, as well as liaising with officers of the Council and other Responsible Authorities, and dealing with issues raised by members of the public.

Management of the Administrative and Local Land Charges functions are also within the remit of the role. You will ensure an efficient and effective service provision to the officers of the Division, of all aspects of an administrative nature and an accurate, timely response to Local Searches requests.

Working as part of a small specialist team we are looking to appoint an enthusiastic person to assist with the day-to-day work of the Licensing Team at Wiltshire Council.

This will involve having responsibility for various aspects of licensing and duties will include dealing with the initial applications, the preparation of licenses and permissions, provision of advice and guidance, report writing and the inspection of licensed premises and vehicles.

The successful candidate will have previous experience of the local authority licensing functions, particularly in regard to the Licensing Act 2003 and Gambling Act 2005.

The successful candidate will have the ability to prioritise, plan and manage their time effectively, demonstrating the ability to meet demanding deadlines.
