East Staffordshire Borough Council prides itself on being a great place to work where staff are trusted, valued and supported to make a positive contribution at work. We truly value our Apprentices. We recognise that Apprenticeships help us identify new talent, build new skills in our workforce, increase diversity in the workplace and help us to deliver our ambitious plans.

JOB DESCRIPTION: An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual who is committed to providing excellent customer service to join the Licensing Team. Licensing plays a vital role in supporting businesses within our borough, enabling high standards and keeping the public safe. Licensing is everywhere, and despite its role in everyday life it often goes unnoticed. Here in East Staffordshire, a small team of officers provide advice and guidance, deal with licensing enquiries, process applications, enforce the law and deal with complaints from members of the public regarding licensed premises or activities. We work closely with a variety of stakeholders including our partner organisations and local businesses. The work is varied and there is an opportunity to make a real difference. The successful candidate will work across the full local authority licensing, including Alcohol, Entertainment, Taxis, Gambling and Pavement Licensing. A very varied and fast paced role where full training and support will be provided. This role will require some out of hours work on evenings and weekends and the ability to or willingness to work towards independent travel around the borough would be essential.

Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate their ability to update a database enabling the record keeping and production of licences. Therefore knowledge and application of Excel, Word and Outlook is essential.

APPRENTICESHIP QUALIFICATION: The successful candidate will be given appropriate paid time off work, to work towards completion of the Regulatory Compliance Officer – Level 4 apprenticeship qualification. PLEASE NOTE: You must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship in the same or similar subject.

APPRENTICESHIP BENEFITS: We offer an excellent benefits package for apprentices. You will be given a fixed term contract allowing you sufficient time to complete your apprenticeship qualification (see below), with the potential to secure a longer-term position to grow within the organisation. We will provide you with a support during your apprenticeship and you will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement as well as access to a number of additional employee benefits and additional learning and development opportunities.

APPRENTICESHIP DURATION: 24 MONTHS
