Salary details - Grade 13 - £37,890 to £40,876 per annum

Job term - Full Time

Closing Date - 28 February 2021

We’re growing our Joint Environmental Health Service to ensure safety of our residents and to help our economic recovery.  Located on the edge of the Peak District and the Sheffield City Region, our innovative Strategic Alliance is making sure we have effective and efficient public protection services.

Following a recent service review, we have secured significant additional investment to grow our Joint Environmental Health Service. We have established a number of new front line and management positions and are looking for enthusiastic, forward thinking and dynamic people.  Our Service Improvement Programme is shaping our future and we are embracing change in how we work and how we deliver efficient and responsive services, whilst also investing in our people.

Benefits include an essential car user allowance, discounted leisure services, fully funded professional fees, generous leave and flexi time allowances and agile working opportunities.

The Licensing Team role is responsible for management and leadership of the Councils’ licensing functions including premises and taxi and private hire licensing and enforcement. This role is available due to a recent retirement within the Service.

Partnerships and effective working relationships are critical to this role, as it works with a range of stakeholders including Police, elected members and other teams and services.  An ability to work effectively with elected members and having a keen political awareness is essential to success.  Attendance at and advising Licensing Committees is a normal part of this high profile role.

It’s an exciting time to join the licensing service.  Our recent improvement programme has delivered more efficient and effective licensing services for both Councils and has given us a starting point for our modernisation of the joint Environmental Health and Licensing Service. Our further development plans for digital applications and innovative solutions to protect the public, while supporting the trade, aim to make us a leader in licensing, locally and nationally.  The right candidate can make this a reality for us.

Expertise in this area is desirable, although we are keen to ensure we have the right leadership and holistic skills within the service to take us forward, and you will be supported by skilled and experienced practitioners. While you do not need prior management experience to succeed in these roles and they are suitable for a leading professional to step up into a management career, demonstrable experience in supervising and leading projects or improvement initiatives would be desirable.

In addition to the particular areas of focus, you will be responsible for team and service performance management, coaching and development of team members, ensuring value for money, and routine interaction with elected members and the public. While you may manage a caseload of your own and take a lead professional role within the team, your focus is development of the service and performance management to ensure our Councils’ priorities are met, to the benefit of our customers, communities and businesses.
