Licensing Assistant - Derbyshire Dales District Council Closing Date: 29/08/2023

We are looking for a highly motivated person with the relevant knowledge, experience and can-do attitude to join the District Council’s Licensing Team.  

This full-time permanent post is based in the Licensing Team within Regulatory Services, at the Town Hall in Matlock.  

Candidates need to be well-organised, confident and able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. They must be computer-literate.  Being able to demonstrate practical experience of working with networked systems and databases would be an advantage. 

The successful applicant must be able to work as part of a small, busy team, and be able to use their initiative, prioritise their workload with limited supervision. They will be required to advise applicants and licence-holders, and to validate and process a wide range of licence applications.  The appointed person will be expected to demonstrate a basic understanding of the main areas of licensing legislation within the first 12 months and will work towards obtaining a formal licensing professional practitioner’s qualification within the first 18 months of employment. 

The appointed person will act as the second point of contact for requests for service and complaints, logging and responding to them accordingly. The licensing types we deal with currently include alcohol, entertainment and late-night refreshment, animal welfare, taxis, gambling, cosmetic piercing, scrap metal, street trading, house to house & street collections, and temporary pavement cafés.
