About this Licensing Officer job in Canterbury:

  • You’ll join our Environmental Health team’s Hybrid working, spending your time working from home, the office, and getting out around the City to visit sites.
  • As a Licensing Officer, you will implement the full range of licensing legislation. 
  • You will process new and renewal applications for all licences that the section cover, and have the knowledge and experience to suspend and revoke licences.
  • You will be preparing accurate reports for Committees/Courts
  • As a Licensing expert within the Environmental Health team, you will confidently represent the council at meetings, forums and technical groups.
  • You are required to hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle for use in the role

Licensing Officers working pattern:

  • This job opportunity is a full time post of 37 hours per week, on weekdays.  There will be some requirement to attend evening meetings and undertake planned out of hours work on occasion.
  • We offer flexible, hybrid working arrangements.
  • You’ll benefit from a full week off over the Christmas period, bank holidays off, PLUS a pro rata of 23 days annual leave to use throughout the rest of the year.

About you, the ideal Licensing Officer for the job:

Your qualifications

  • You will hold a Licensing qualification or be educated to ‘A’ level standard

Your experience

  • You should have prior working experience in a local authority regulatory environment.
  • Your experience will demonstrate good communication and IT skills, which will ideally include at least one year working in Licensing.
  • You must have the ability to solve problems, quickly and effectively and work on your own initiative.

Your knowledge

  • You’ll have developed a comprehensive knowledge of Licensing legislation and associated guidance as well as the roles of other statutory agencies.
  • In particular, you’ll have the ability to deal with Premises, Taxis, Gambling, Street Trading and Scrap Metal Licences.
