The borough of Basildon is alive with opportunity and has the ingredients to be one
of the most successful and desirable places in the South East. As the largest
economy in the Thames Estuary outside London, we are incredibly proud of what
we have achieved but we are never complacent. We are driving inclusive,
sustainable growth to provide opportunity and prosperity for local people and
businesses, access to quality homes, vibrant town centres and an enhanced local
environment.

Basildon Borough Council is looking to recruit 3 Casual Licensing Officers to help
support the work of our busy Licensing Team and help us to keep the Council’s
promise to “get the basics right”. As the largest economy in the Thames Estuary
outside London, Basildon has a number of vibrant town centres with a varied
selection of licensable activity around the nighttime economy.
The Team is responsible for a range of licensing functions including Taxis, Liquor,
Gambling, Scrap Metal, and SEV’s amongst other activities. The roles will involve
undertaking routine checks to ensure compliance with licence conditions; engaging
with licence holders and supporting enforcement operations, amongst other
activities. Whilst we are looking for the persons in this role to be able to work
across all licensing activities, we will consider those with the right skills and sound
enforcement experience in specific subject areas.

You must be able to demonstrate your ability to work as part of our team as well as
on your own initiative and have a sound knowledge of legal practice in relation to
licensing issues, particularly around enforcement. The roles require excellent
verbal communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, including the ability to
present information in a variety of formats to different audiences. The post holder
will need to be flexible to enable work predominantly outside of office hours, but
with an opportunity to also support the team during the daytime as as service
needs require. This will be reflected in the payment at relevant overtime rates for
out of hours activity, and mileage at the casual user rate.
If you would like to be part of Basildon’s success, we look forward to receiving your
application.

Please see the Job Description and Person Specification.

If you are interested in this role, please submit your CV with a covering letter
