Senior Licensing Practitioner 

£30,800 - £38,500 plus great benefits (Work Level 6A) 

Manchester city centre, hybrid working

We’re looking for a Senior Licensing Practitioner to join us at Co-op. In this role, you’ll form part of our Licensing team responsible for managing the necessary legal requirements for selling regulatory goods, such as alcohol, for our Co-op Food stores.

As the senior member of the team, we’ll look to you to support and coach your colleagues, leading on process evolution, escalation support, embedding additional services and continuous improvement within the team. This will be in addition to leading on daily licensing administrational duties and operational escalations.  This is a great opportunity for you to develop your skills and to gain great exposure in an important area of our business.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and develop exceptional administrational practices to deliver a best-in-class service for our colleagues
  • Drive compliance and maintain legality through process improvement and development of both MI (management information) and BI (business information) while championing a continuous improvement mindset
  • Coach the team, lead training on new policies and assist the Licensing Manager with departmental prioritisation
  • Use your licensing knowledge to evolve business culture, horizon planning and performance delivery aligned to business strategy
  • Make sure that data integrity is always maintained and assist with audits to transition the team to an exception management approach
  • Actively support management of the day-to-day workload, including project input, leading from the front, and monitoring progress and outputs against expectation
  • Deputise for the Licensing Team Manager as required, being a recognised escalation point and leading on complex queries and project work

This role would suit people who have

  • The ability to represent the department and challenge key partners to obtain senior buy in and initiative sponsorship
  • A proven understanding of relevant UK Licensing laws, regulations and industry trends and opportunities, with previous working knowledge and experience around UK Premises Licensing Acts' and regulations
  • Previous continuous improvement experience within an administrative environment
  • Previous team leadership experience including coaching and mentoring
  • A good understanding of data analytics with the ability to draw insights and confidently present this to senior colleagues
  • Problem-solving skills, with the ability to react to live operational issues and prioritise your work effectively
  • A can do attitude with a desire to drive our service forward
