Nuneaton pub licence revoked Published Date: 12/09/2023

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council Licencing Committee has revoked the licence of a public house in Nuneaton town centre on advice from Warwickshire Police.

The decision was made at a licensing sub-committee hearing held on Wednesday, 6 September 2023, to revoke the premises licence of Nuneaton town centre's Luxe Lounge.

This followed a Licencing Act 2003 summary licence review application, made to the licensing authority by Warwickshire Police in August. The licensing authority then had 28 days to host a full review hearing.

The Police also asked for interim steps to suspend the licence immediately to be considered by the licensing authority and a subsequent sub-committee accepted the Police’s request and suspended the licence.

On Wednesday the committee agreed to revoke the licence following further evidence presented by Police.

The grounds of the review were that the premises were believed to be involved in ‘serious cases of crime and disorder’.

Portfolio Holder for Public Services, Cllr Sue Markham, said:

"We work hard to make Nuneaton and Bedworth a great place to live, work and visit and listen carefully to the concerns of residents and work closely with local agencies to do this.

"The Borough Council facilitated this action following an application from Warwickshire Police.

"The Police presented their evidence and asked for this licence to be revoked, and after hearing that evidence the panel agreed this action should be taken.

"We want our town centres to thrive, and will take action to help make sure that is the case where there are people who are not able to keep to the rules."
