This two day course will be held on 16th & 17th October at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, nr Doncaster in Outlook Suite.
The course will focus on the licensing requirements and exemptions to Zoo licensing. In addition there will be extra input in relation to specific areas of animal welfare licensing including performing animals and circuses.
The first day will focus on zoo licensing procedure, applications, dispensations, exemptions and enforcement options. We will also review the requirement for conservation work by the zoo with input from the Zoo's specialist on this.
On the second day the morning will be spent with a DEFRA inspector and staff from the zoo conducting a mock zoo inspection with mock inspection forms. We will have access to various species of animals and the expert knowledge of the zoo staff. The afternoon will include an inspection debrief reviewing the inspection along with a question and answer session on the inspection, then presentations on inspectors reports, refusal to licence, covering reapplications for zoos, dispensations and appeal and what to do when a zoo closes.
The trainers are Sarah & Julian Chapman, Chapman Zoo Consultancy.
Please Note: The non-member rate will include complimentary individual membership at the appropriate level until 31st March 2025.

NB. This course does not have accommodation as part of the package. There is a hotel in the zoo grounds or various nearby options.

Head to The Warning Tongue Lane Entrance of the park DN4 6TB (please note this is a generic postcode and will take you to a housing estate so once you are on Warning Tongue Lane don’t turn off if you Sat Nav tells you, the park will be on the right hand side if travelling from M18 via The Great Yorkshire Way – you will need to park in the car park at the front of retail of the light green building that says Wild Education and Yorkshire Wildlife Park on it – please enter via that building - Please do not to go to the New Entrance following The Brown Tourists signs as they will end up in the wrong location There is a Yellow Traffic Sign at the gates of Warning Tongue Lane directing people away from that entrance – again please ignore and drive round.
