This Animal Licensing course will update delegates on the transition to the new licensing regime for animal activities. The course starts by explaining why and how the new legislation came to be and the main differences compared to the old regime. The course covers dog breeding, pet sales, animal boarding, horse riding and exhibiting animals. It does not include zoo licensing. (IoL offers a separate 2 day Zoo Licensing Course).
The trainer will be Linda Cannon.

The course takes place in the Council Chamber of East Northamptonshire Council.

Learning Objectives:
To increase knowledge and practical understanding surrounding the subject of animal licensing.

Course Outcomes:
On completion of the course a delegate will know what animal activities require a licence, the processes surrounding an application for a licence including inspections, an understanding of the various licence conditions as well as aspects involved in enforcement of the licences.

Target Audience:
This course is aimed at local authority officers in England who administer licence applications and carry out inspections with regards to animal licensing.

Linda Cannon
Linda enjoyed a 28 year career in Local government specialising first in Environmental Health & Licensing and then heading up a bespoke Licensing team from 2003 with the commencement of the Licensing Act 2003. Later she became the Licensing Manager for a shared Licensing Service across 2 authorities administering almost all of the Local Authority Licensing regimes including Alcohol and Entertainment, Gambling, Scrap Metal, Street Trading, Animal welfare to name a few. Since 2017 Linda is now as a freelance trainer and consultant in all things related to Local authority Licensing matters. Linda also chairs the South East Region of the IoL and has supported a number of the IoL working party groups. In 2017 she made the bold step to pursue a new self-employed career a Licensing Consultant and trainer working for the ‘other’ side.
