Government publish taxi database response 13th February 2019

DEFRA has published its response on proposals to introduce a national licensed vehicle database.

DEFRA said that subject to debate in Parliament, from 1 May 2019, all licensing authorities in England and Wales will have to provide information on the taxis and PHVs they’ve licensed to a central database. The first charging Clean Air Zone is due to go live from early 2020.

There was “general support” from the 102 respondents according to DEFRA.

In their analysis of the consultation responses, DEFRA acknowledged that the issue of adequate resourcing for local authorities was mentioned and respondents also commented on the IT capability of local authorities
