Appeal against revocation and transfer of premises licence dismissed 2nd July 2019

An appeal against a decision by Reading Borough Council to revoke and refuse to tranfer a premises licence has been dismissed.

On Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 June 2019 an appeal hearing was heard at Reading Magistrates’ Court brought by Miah’s Garden of Gulab, 130 – 134 Wokingham Road, Reading against the revocation and transfer of their premises licence by Reading Borough Council’s Licensing Committee.

Magistrates’ heard that on 13 May 2018, Immigration, Council Licensing Enforcement and Thames Valley Police officers found 5 illegal workers at the premises as well as breaches of the restaurants premises licence which permits them to sell alcohol.

 Jamshed Miah the owner of the business attempted to transfer the licence out of his name to his son but this was rejected by the local authority and the police. Mr Miah’s appeal against the revocation and transfer of licence were dismissed by Reading Magistrates and he was order to pay full costs of £7,164.50.
