Ireland notifies EU of regulation to ban alcohol promotions 5th September 2019

The Irish government has notified the European Commission of plans to ban alcohol promotions in the country.

According to reports, the Irish government plans to ban the use of bonus or loyalty card points which would allow people to buy alcoholic drinks at a reduced price or free of charge.

Ireland has adopted draft Regulations regulation to ban certain promotions on alcohol, as part of efforts to reduce excessive alcohol consumption under the country’s Public Health (Alcohol) Act which was passed last year.
