Licensing Enforcement Officer - Brent Council Closing Date: 13/02/2022

Salary range: £36,708 - £46,839 p.a. inc.
Contract: Permanent
Hours of work: 36 hours per week
Location: Civic centre and other locations from time to time

The Post
We are seeking to appoint a Licensing Enforcement Officer to work in the Licensing team to ensure the effective and efficient running of the licensing service and discharge the Council’s statutory duties in respect of a range of licensing functions and to serve the Council, its Committee Members and Officers.

The service is responsible for administering and enforcing a variety of licensing functions, including those related to alcohol, entertainments and late night refreshments; gambling premises and lotteries; charity collections; animal establishments, scrap metal and street trading.

To undertake enforcement related monitoring in relation to street trading and licensed premises – the individual must be flexible and able to work outside of normal office hours as part of this contract.

The post holder must have excellent communication and IT skills, effective organising and prioritising their own workload to ensure meeting targets and a sound understanding of legal practice and procedures relating to the licensing activities of London local authorities.

The Person
We are looking for an experienced Licensing Enforcement Officer with experience in enforcement, including investigating complaints, responding to service request, carrying out routine inspections, preparing cases for Court, writing committee reports, providing specialist and expert advice and guidance to licensees, applicants, general public, Councillors and colleagues on licensing matters and to administer applications for the grant, renewal, transfer and variation of a variety of licenses. The successful candidate will be able to manage their own workloads and work to tight deadlines.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience within the Licensing Team of a local authority (or similar relevant work experience
  • Practical experience of enforcement of licensing law in relation to licensing sale of alcohol, gambling premises, animal licensing and street trading.
  • Managing well under pressure with ability to respond to tight deadlines.
  • Skills in multitasking, prioritisation, workload management and time management.
  • Working out of normal office hours as required in order to meet service demands and emergencies.
  • Full driving licence is essential and the ability to drive a variety of council vehicles.
