Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is passionate about providing high-quality services to our communities, residents and businesses. This means we must employ and retain the most talented and dedicated people.

Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. We are an innovative and forward-thinking local authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision-making.

At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising), all of which support our ultimate purpose of putting our customers first.

Job details

An opportunity has arisen to join our fantastic Licensing Team on a full-time, permanent basis to support us with a vast range of licensing tasks. These include:

  • LA03/taxi/animal welfare
  • dealing with customer queries and complainants
  • supporting the admin team
  • managing workload
  • policy development
  • taking enforcement action to help us achieve our service, which meets customer expectations.

Although flexible on how the hours are worked, ideally, we're looking for someone who can support us over five days between Monday to Friday, with the occasional evening and weekend as required.

The role is a mix of all licensing disciplines and is not focussed on one licence type. Your daily work will be generated through service requests, actions and inspections. You will help us to meet statutory timescales and work with external partners to deliver the needs of the service.

In this busy and varied role, no two days will be the same. You could be developing policies, carrying out both pre-programmed and unannounced, dealing with customer queries via telephone/face to face or email, managing caseloads in a priority order. This is a chance to really make an impact, learn new skills and be part of a supportive team.

You must be an excellent communicator with strong organisational skills, confident and competent to deal with a variety of issues. Self-motivated and proactive, you will have some previous licensing experience and be able to manage your own workload with minimal supervision to meet multiple deadlines.

A good general knowledge surrounding the concepts and principles of the licensing function is desired, but we're committed to finding the right person with an interest in licensing that would thrive in this role.

Striking the balance between delivering a compliant licensing process whilst maintaining flexibility to meet stakeholder needs, you'll be known for your reliability, attention to detail and organisation, alongside a collaborative and proactive approach.
