Licensing Technical Officer

Permanent: 37 hrs a week

Grade 5: £19,698

 

You will work to the Principal Officer (Licensing) regulating licensable activities including hackney carriage and private hire vehicles, premises and persons in respect of the sale of alcohol, regulated entertainment and late night refreshment; premises under the Gambling Act 2005; animal activities licensing, pavement licensing, street trading, scrap metal, sex establishments and charity collections.

The post is based in Beverley, however will involve a ‘blended’ working approach where our time will be split between the office and some home working using remote and agile working arrangements.

On a day by day basis you will be responsible for assisting with the administration and compliance of a wide range of licensing functions including taxis, Licensing Act 2003, Gambling Act, street trading, animal welfare, charity collections and more.

Your duties will vary from giving advice via telephone calls and emails, processing licensing applications to ensure essential criteria is met, as well as going out on site visits to give advice and support local businesses with understanding their licensing responsibilities.

The post holder will be required to communicate effectively, and establish and maintain good working relationships across a number of sectors including with licensees, and the general public.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual with a positive ‘can do’ attitude to assist us in delivering this regulatory service, and someone who has an interest in starting a career in a challenging and exciting front line customer facing service where every day is different.

If you enjoy being busy, are a good team player with excellent organisational, administrative, communication and I.T skills, have good attention to detail, with the flexibility to respond to varying workload demands, this may be the job and career opportunity for you. Professionalism and the ability to work both with minimal supervision and as part of a small team towards shared goals is essential.

You should hold a full driving licence and will be expected to travel to locations across the East Riding to carry out licensing compliance checks and assist with providing advice to local businesses.

Applicants should have a good level of education with 5 GCSE’s including Maths and English or hold a qualification at Level 2 BTEC/NVQ or above in a relevant subject.

You will need flexibility in your working hours as very occasionally you may be asked to work later into the evening or weekends to ensure the effective delivery of the Licensing Service. This will usually be no more than once every two months. You will be paid for any additional hours worked.
