House of Lords Report: Towns and Cities: Local Power is the Path to Recovery Published Date: 12/12/2021

The House of Lords COVID-19 Committee has published its report – ‘Towns and Cities: Local Power is the Path to Recovery’.

The report emphasises the importance of towns and cities to our social and economic wellbeing and sets out the Committee’s proposals for reimagining our towns and cities in light of the seismic changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Committee’s recommendations are grouped under three overarching themes:

  • Increased power and financial resources for local authority leaders;
  • A blended approach to the regeneration of housing, public transport, public services and green spaces in our towns and cities; and
  • Putting tackling inequalities at the heart of the regeneration agenda in our towns and cities.

The Institute of Licensing made a written submission to the COVID-19 committee which can be viewed here.
