Melton Mowbray remove CIP Published Date: 05/01/2023

Poppleston Allen reported that Melton Mowbray removed their cumulative impact policy and adopted a new Statement of Licensing Policy. The revised policy has taken effect.

The Cumulative Impact zone (which effectively placed tougher restrictions on applications for new licences or material variations) was deemed no longer suitable with the new policy citing the rapidly changing hospitality sector and that many argue that rather than improving an area, such policies can lead to a lack of choice for customers and add additional barriers to entry and extra bureaucracy for new businesses looking to establish within the area, as well as stating there was no sufficient evidence post pandemic to support the re-adoption of the special policy.

This decision follows on from other midlands-based councils such as Leicester, Birmingham and Nottingham that have also removed their Cumulative Impact Policies.
