Pavement Licensing - Consultation open Published Date: 07/02/2022

DLUHC are consulting on proposals for a permanent regime for pavement licensing.  The consultation is now live but will close on Friday 11th February 2022.

The Business and Planning Act 2020 introduced a more streamlined and cheaper route for businesses such as cafes, restaurants and bars to secure a licence to place furniture on the highway, known as a pavement licence. This temporary process is currently in place until September 2022, however the Government committed in July 2021 through the Build Back Better High Streets Strategy to make these measures permanent, subject to Parliamentary approval.

DLUHC are now working up policy proposals for a permanent regime, and seek feedback on the regime via online survey by close of play on Friday 11th February 2022.

DLUHC can be contacted via email to pavementlicensing@levellingup.gov.uk.
